Artist Statement

Bay Area native Dave Conkle is a painter, illustrator and photographer with a deep affinity for landscapes, the delights of animal portraiture, and the limitless wonders of the natural world. He works in a wide variety of media and enjoys experimenting with new techniques.

His latest painting series represents his love for animals and nature. In these new works, Dave developed the imagery from his own photography and sourced images, then painstakingly hand-carved and sanded his drawings on large wood panels. He then spent many hours applying multiple layers of sheer pigment tints to the carvings, to achieve the desired effects of color and dimension without obscuring the natural grain in the wood panels.
